Traineeship

On the road: DW journalism trainees on their first foreign assignment

From the windy prairies of Montana to a fast-paced newsroom in London, DW trainees wrapped up their first year by heading out into the world to find stories that captivate.

With 12 aspiring journalists from nine different countries taking part in DW's journalism traineeship 2021/2022 they’ve made it DW’s most international traineeship ever. During the traineeship they learn the tools of the journalistic trade through practical seminars and multimedia internships at DW's editorial offices in Bonn and Berlin and spend two months in one of DW's correspondent bureaux. They also spend a month in a media or media-related organization of their choice: this year it ranged from the German ARD studio in Madrid to the United Nations in Jamaica. The idea is for trainees to experience why DW correspondent’s work is unique and to see the approach of colleagues from other media organizations.
